The Business Unit Grating technology produces grating applications based on client-specific requirements. Product options are almost unlimited, which means that there are numerous applications in traditional construction as well as in architecture for façade cladding, sun blinds and partition walls. The products include floor gratings, perforated treads, louvre and balcony fencing, expanded metal, floor gratings, Artdeck® and JettyDeck. These unique products and specific applications make a sustainable contribution to architectural solutions.

“Focus on knowledge-driven products.

Looking back

In 2019, both revenue and gross margin fell slightly by comparison with 2018. In a part of the product segment, competition is increasing and price is the sole factor in terms of acquiring orders. This shows that Staco must strengthen its concentration on knowledge-driven products and providing creative and inspiring solutions. Both the German and English growth markets are lagging behind expectations. This is due to the uncertainties associated with Brexit and changes in staffing at the German sales office.

Looking ahead

The Business Unit Grating technology is taking further steps towards new product-market combinations. The current market for the standard product is characterised by intense price competition and it no longer matches Staco's mission. Operating in several European countries brings with it the challenge of adapting to the developments seen in each sales area.

Belfort Mons renovation project

The clear and recognisable strategic market approach constitutes the basis for the management of the sales offices. The implementation of the strategy is central. In addition, the first steps have been taken on the road to improving efficiency in the ERP program. This project will be completed in 2020.

Expanded metal continues to be a growth market

Although Roto B.V. sold the production location for expanded metal in France to a local party in 2019, expanded metal continues to be a part of the Business Unit Grating technology’s product portfolio.

Revenue in 2019 for the Business Unit Expanded metal relates to the period from 1 January to the end of May 2019 when the shares in Métal Déployé SAS were sold. The strategic focus on architecture initiated by Roto B.V. has borne fruit: the shareholding achieved a positive result again in the early months of 2019. The company has been active as a part of ROTO since early 2008 and so it was with some sadness that we said goodbye to this wonderful company. The book loss of € 1.6 million realised in relation to the net asset value was charged to the result from participating interests in 2019.
